Onyx hubs transfer the precise amount of torque you want to the ground when you need it. direct drive trainer). The Onyx Vesper rear hub helps you tame the gnarliest trails on the mountain or blaze your own. New ceramnic bearings not cheap and I don't want to put them in every 2,000 miles (I ride about 3,000 - 3500 a year on that bike including winter training miles (when I don't run that hub. I am hoping to get parts today and shop will install.

VESPER HUBS TRIAL
Had I known how this would blow up over the last 2 weeks of trial and error, I would have just driven up there with the wheel in hand. It is frustrating that Onyx is only an hour from me.

I only bought the hubs and bult last fall, so I'm not sure if I have the latest/greatest parts for this Vesper hub. I think I saw another thread that Onyx may have a different/newer preload / lockring. I'm not sure if this is the same part they have been fussing with, or if Onyx is sending something else.
VESPER HUBS PROFESSIONAL
Onyx has been professional on the phone, but they've been slow to respond and we are now waiting on a new preload collar to come in. I'm told they have exchanged several calls with Onyx, but they've been unable to remedy and get that preload to stay in place. Found out the hard way when I tilted wheel w/cassette facing down and it fell off. I've also noticed that when I periodically remove rear wheel for basic bike cleaning, if I am not super careful, the cassette will just slide off. Preload not holding it all together nicely. Cause assumed to be all the play in the hub. Pulling it apart they found one of the inner/outer bearings (can't remember which right now) and my freehub bearings were all pretty shot. I have about 2,000 miles on the hub over 8 months and the play was so bad that the hub started to make a pretty loud pop/snap on sharp road transitions (expansion joints, small potholes, etc.). Same issue where hub has play and they are unable to get the preload to stay in place (keeps backing out). U/seadug: Did you ever get a resolution on this with Onyx? I have 700c gravel bike wheels up in my LBS shop for the last two weeks with Vesper rear hub problems.
